A large military base in the Southwest issued a contract to oversee a comprehensive energy efficiency retrofit project and base wide expansion. An architectural firm was engaged to design new buildings as part of this and at the same time to oversee the comprehensive energy efficiency retrofit project. An example of the energy efficiency retrofits is represented by the HVAC upgrades completed for the extensive short-term barracks complex.
The barracks complex was served by a central plant. The central plant was retrofit with a new chiller/boiler and campus wide controls. T8 lighting upgrades were also made in this barracks complex.
The architectural firm was allocated the Section 179D deduction by the military branch in charge of the facility and Concord was engaged by the architects to certify the project for Section 179D deductions. The resulting deduction on this one building alone was $89,712 or $1.80/SF.
