AGC Urges Congress to Pass Infrastructure Bills

Five years after states started shedding construction jobs in advance of the recession, construction employment is down in every state — in some cases, by more than 50 percent, according to an analysis of Census Bureau data by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

As a result, the association is beginning a new push to encourage Congress to pass legislation authorizing long-delayed infrastructure projects.

“The construction industry remains a shell of its former self in too many states,” said the association’s chief executive officer, Stephen E. Sandherr. “Making long-overdue investments in our nation’s aging roads, bridges and transit systems will put people back to work and give a needed boost to the broader economy.”
