Construction Employment At Highest Level in 6 Years - Concord LP | Concord Energy Strategies

Written by Concord | Feb 06, 2015

Construction firms added 39,000 jobs in January, lowering the industry employment rate to 9.8 percent, according to an analysis by the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

There are now 6,314,000 jobs in the sector, 308,000 more than there were a year ago — the highest employment levels since February 2009.

Construction firms report they plan to add more jobs in the coming year — if they can find qualified workers.

“The combination of rapidly rising employment, good prospects for 2015, and a depleted pool of unemployed workers with construction experience means contractors may have a hard time filling jobs with the workers they need in coming months,” said Ken Simonson, the association’s chief economist. “Worker availability challenges have replaced a lack of projects as the biggest worry for many contractors.”
