The CEOs of American engineering companies continue to have a positive outlook on their firms’ prospects, according to the Engineering Business Index (EBI) compiled by the American Council of Engineering Companies.
The EBI charts the health of the engineering industry through member responses to a series of questions about company performance and market trends, consolidated into a single number. Any number over 50 indicates expansion.
Quarter 3’s score is 68.8, virtually unchanged from 68.9 in the second quarter.
Over two-thirds of the executives reported that employment at their firms had reached or exceeded 2008 pre-recession levels, and one-quarter said their employment had increased by ten percent or more. Some 65 percent reported higher backlogs than at the same time last year.
