The American Council of Engineering Companies’ Engineering Business Index (EBI) remains positive for the third quarter of the year, showing a score of 68.9 — up from 67.4 in the first quarter.
The EBI charts the health of the engineering industry through member responses to a series of questions about company performance and market trends, consolidated into a single number. Any number over 50 indicates expansion.
Over two-thirds of the firm leaders surveyed (68%) thought business conditions were improved over a year ago, and over 60 percent said their backlogs were larger than last year. Respondents saw a positive climate for all public markets (the sectors were transportation; water and wastewater; other environmental; education; healthcare; and other).
